Nevertheless, experience shows that energy accounts for over 60 per cent of the life cycle costs of a locomotive. Increasing customer focus on sustainability and stricter legal regulations are exerting additional pressure on market players. Energy efficiency should therefore be a core component of a sustainable corporate strategy – even more so in the railway sector.

For example, we set up a unique model to calculate the effect a driver advisory system would have on the energy consumption for a specific railway undertaking based on real world data.
